Transforming a Telematics Platform: Legacy Modernization on Azure
A leading UK automotive services provider needed to modernize a telematics platform originally built in 2009 and serving over 10,000 active B2B users, without downtime. RITE NRG migrated it off an unsupported framework and delivered, in the client's words, more value in six months than the previous provider had in two years.

Starting situation
The platform ran on Microsoft Azure with a microservices architecture, but a critical component still depended on the unsupported .NET Framework 4.5, creating maintenance burden and security exposure with no further updates from Microsoft. Years of development by multiple vendors without a consistent SDLC strategy had left substantial technical debt. There was virtually no documentation, with all critical knowledge of the original design held by a single product owner on the client side. Business teams needed predictability and clear timelines and costs for new features while retaining the flexibility to change priorities. Everything had to be done while the system stayed live for more than 10,000 users, and vehicle telemetry data carried strict data protection and retention obligations.
What we advised
We recommended a dual-methodology operating model: SCRUM for new functionality to give the business predictability, and KANBAN for service requests to preserve flexibility for immediate needs, giving business teams visibility and control over both roadmap and team capacity.
What we built or changed
We assembled a hybrid team of Polish specialists working directly with the client's key stakeholders, then performed the critical migration from .NET Framework 4.5 to .NET Core 6.0, improving performance, security and maintainability, and refactored to address technical debt across the microservices. We took ownership of ongoing maintenance and extension on Azure, integrated telematics devices including black boxes and RFID cards for real-time data collection, and expanded the platform with driver behavior analysis while preparing the ground for AI-driven driver scoring, predictive maintenance and fleet optimization. A detailed platform audit fed knowledge transfer and documentation.
